The dream that once felt out of reach

After years of enduring one health problem after another, trekking to Everest Base Camp began to feel out of reach. Small daily actions helped me rebuild my health, strength and belief in what was still possible.

The dream that once felt out of reach

Trekking to Everest Base Camp had been sitting on my bucket list for years.

It was one of those dreams I held quietly. I could picture myself standing there, surrounded by the mountains, knowing I had done something that had once felt impossible.

However, after years of enduring one health problem after another, that dream began to feel further and further away.

When your body continues to let you down, it can slowly change the way you see yourself. You stop trusting what you are capable of. You become cautious about making plans because you do not know how you will feel. Eventually, you can begin to believe that some experiences are simply no longer available to you.

I was tired of feeling held back. I was tired of continually having to start again. Somewhere along the way, trekking to Everest Base Camp began to feel like a dream that belonged to a different version of me.

The biggest change did not come from one enormous decision. I did not wake up one morning with a perfect health routine and suddenly feel ready to trek through the Himalayas.

I started with one small action.

I began paying closer attention to what my body needed. I worked on my nutrition, movement, sleep, stress and daily habits. I stopped looking for one dramatic solution and started creating simple systems that I could actually live with.

One small action became another, and then another.

On their own, those actions did not always feel significant. There were no dramatic overnight transformations. However, repeated over time, they began to build something much bigger.

They rebuilt my health, my strength and my belief in myself.

Slowly, the dream that had once felt impossible became something I could consider again. Then it became something I could plan. Eventually, it became something I was physically walking towards, one step at a time.

There is something incredibly powerful about finding yourself in a place you once thought your body might never allow you to reach.

Trekking to Everest Base Camp taught me that we are so much more capable than we think. It also reminded me that lasting change rarely comes from trying harder, punishing ourselves or completely overhauling our lives.

Most of the time, we need the right support, a few thoughtful changes and simple systems that help us continue moving forward, even on the days when motivation is nowhere to be found.

Your goal might not be to trek to Everest Base Camp.

It might be travelling somewhere you have always dreamed of visiting. It might be playing with your children without feeling exhausted, returning to an activity you once loved, feeling comfortable in your body again or waking up with enough energy to enjoy your life.

Sometimes the things on our bucket lists are not grand adventures. Sometimes they are ordinary moments that have started to feel out of reach.

If you have been struggling with your health, it can be easy to look at where you are today and assume that this is how life will always feel. You can become so focused on what your body cannot do that you lose sight of what might still be possible.

However, where you are today does not have to be where you stay.

There may be patterns keeping you stuck that you have not recognised yet. There may be small changes that could make a meaningful difference. There may be a different path available to you, even if you cannot see the whole path from where you are standing.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. You only need a starting point and the willingness to take one action.

Then you take the next one.

If you know you want to feel better but do not know where to begin, I created the free Start With Ali quiz to help you identify what you might need most right now. It will guide you towards a simple starting point based on your health goals, without expecting you to change everything at once.

If there is a woman in your life who has been struggling with her health or feeling as though the life she wants is slipping further away, please share this with her.

A little help, a few thoughtful changes and one small action could be the beginning of an entirely different path.

You might be far more capable than you think.
